What Is GST Return Filing ?

Every person who is registered under GST is required to file GSTR-1 (Return of outward supply) till the 10th day of the subsequent month or quarter-end, GSTR-3B (monthly summary return) till the 20th of the subsequent month.

Traders and Manufacturers registered under the GST composition scheme are required to file GSTR-4 every quarter, till the 18th of the subsequent month next to the quarter. In the end, annual GST return is to be filed by all GST registered entities before the 31st of December of the subsequent financial year.

GSTR - 10 GSTR-10 return must be filed by any person whose GST registration has been cancelled or surrendered. GSTR-10 must be filed within 3 months of the date of cancellation order or surrender.

WHO ARE REQUIRED TO FILE GST RETURN?

GST returns are to be filed by every person who is registered under the GST irrespective of any supply made or not. GST return is also required to be filled even if there is no business commenced.

WHAT IS RECONCILATION OF GST CREDIT?

Input credit filled by the supplier is reflected in GSTR 2A automatically with details of all the input supply. The Credit reflected in GSTR 2A has to be reconciled with that shown in books of accounts, GSTR 3B and GSTR 1 quarterly.

WHICH GST RETURN IS TO BE FILED BY COMPOSITE TAXABLE PERSON?

Composite Taxable person has to file a Quarterly GSTR 4 return till 18th of the month subsequent to that quarter. There is no requirement to file GSTR 3 or GSTR 3B every month.

WHAT IS AN ANNUAL GST RETURN?

Section 44 of CGST Act requires every person registered under the GST to file annual GST return till 31st December of the subsequent financial year. Various annual returns are as under

  • GSTR 9Filled by a person who is required to file GSTR 1 and whose turnover is less than INR 2 Crores.

  • GSTR 9AFilled by person who has filled GST return under the composite scheme.

  • GSTR 9CThis return is to be filled by the person whose turnover exceeds INR 2 Crores in a financial year. This return is also called a GST Audit return.
